According to Colonel David Butler, spokesman for US Forces Afghanistan, a CH-47F Chinook helicopter “hit the ground hard on the way to drop passengers off” during a mission in Helmand province.
Butler said the helicopter had been totally destroyed during the landing.
“Both Afghan and US personnel were injured but all are stable and expected to recover,” he pointed out.
“No hostile fire or enemy contact involved.”
The CH-47F is an advanced multi-mission helicopter for the U.S. Army and international defense forces. It contains a fully integrated, digital cockpit management system, Common Aviation Architecture Cockpit, and advanced cargo-handling capabilities that complement the aircraft’s mission performance and handling characteristics.
